Marlene please describe your business / organization? What do you do and how do you do it?
Penticton Women in Business meets monthly for a luncheon event (currently via zoom) for education, sharing and networking purposes.

What is one thing you’re most proud of so far? PWIB offers networking and educational opportunities to women from all levels and types of business. Everyone is welcome.

How does being involved in the community affect your business? Participating in the community allows us to connect with like-minded businesses and organizations, and make meaningful connections that benefit all.

How many years have you been in business / operation? Formed in 2001, PWIB celebrates 20 years in 2021. 

What is an interesting fact about your organization that most people don’t know? PWIB welcomes members from every age range and area of business – professional, tourism, sports, medical, home based, industry, financial…and more.

Do you have a personal or professional motto? Penticton Women in Business – where women connect, empower, and inspire, through networking, leadership and education.

Who are the people in the background of your organization? The Board of Directors is elected annually by the membership. Marlene Trenholm has served as the administrator since inception.

What are some reasons you enjoy being a member of the Penticton Chamber of Commerce? Participation in the Chamber offers expansion of networking and education opportunities, benefits plan, community support.

How can people keep up to date on what’s happening at your organization? We offer a monthly email update on activities (add your contact info by messaging You can find PWIB on Facebook, and via our website.

Share with us when / why you made the decision to start your own business/organization? i.e. Was there a specific defining moment or realization? A few women in business were discussing opportunities for educational development and networking – we reached out to others and PWIB was born.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose and why? Each of our members would perhaps suggest a different mentor – which is what makes us great – we have a wealth of mentors!

Anything else you want the community to know about your business? We are proud of our annual PWIB Bursary commitment, which helps a returning Business Program student at Okanagan College.

How long have you been in the Okanagan? If you aren’t originally from the valley, what led you to call the Okanagan home? Although our name reflects PENTICTON, our organization is open to all interested women from throughout the South Okanagan and beyond.

What are your biggest challenges as an organization? Current challenges for our networking organization revolve around being able to meet together – we are addressing these by being creative via zoom.

What are the biggest rewards? Every meeting offers another occasion to meet new business people, to exchange ideas, to ask questions, to mentor others. Community building.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone starting a business in Penticton and area? Be open to new ideas and know that there will always be challenges and they can be overcome. And be sure to join the Chamber of Commerce.

Who inspires you? Our members inspire each other, and encourage personal as well as business growth.
