The following will be explored:

The Rules: What is the board’s role in good governance? What are bylaws, policies, terms of reference and what do you do with them?

The Strategy: How do you handle your board’s year effectively and efficiently within volunteers’ limited time? We discover the board’s annual work plan, meeting agendas and strategic plan.

The Players: How do you find the right people for your board? We talk about the recruitment and development of all your directors, having effective committees, and the senior staff person’s annual performance review

Deb’s passion is to assist boards in realizing their potential by mentoring, teaching and facilitating numerous workshops on the subject.

Deb has studied board governance for over twenty years, primarily through The Governance Group based in Vancouver. She has served on many boards, including national and provincial boards, for over thirty-five years.

Deb also worked at the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce for nineteen years, supporting her board of directors as they transitioned to a solid governance model.

Within all these experiences, Deb came to realize that governance, when done right, could be fun and easy. That is why she has developed governance workshops, including a streamlined strategic planning process, that are highly effective, engaging and inspiring.

Deb has been recognized as Executive of the Year and Chamber of the Year by her provincial network and Executive of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada. Most recently, she was appointed to the Council of Excellence by a panel of her peers across the country and appointed a of Fellow of the BC Chamber of Commerce.
